Who are the peoples of the Ancient Middle East?
 
-The Hitites (1600-1200 BC)
-The Phoenicians (1200-850 BC)
-The Hebrews (1020-586 BC)
-The Assryian Empire (1000-612 BC)
-The Rulers of Babylon (626-539 BC)
-The Lydians (700-300 BC)
-The Persian Empire (550-330 BC)
 
What were each of these peoples known for?
The Hitites:-
-they developed iron working and kept it a secret
-Aryans who migrated to northern Mespotamia and
Asia Minor (Turkey) (1600-1200 BC)

The Phoenicians:-
-they are great sailors
-everywhere they went they spread thier alphabet
which was based upon sounds
-trade barter (1200-850 BC)
"carriers if civilization"

The Hebrews:-
-Judaism (the Hebrew religion)
-based upon one supreme god (monothiesm)
(1020-586 BC)

The Assyrian Empire:-
-the Assyrians are known as ruthless warriors
-library with thousands of cuneiform writing
-taxes and laws
-well-trained army
-absolute power (1000-612 BC)

The Rulers of Babylon:-
-hanging gardens of Babylon
-conquered much of the trade crescent
(626-539 BC)(Chaldeans)

The Lydians:-
-used coins in trading (560 BC)
-payment of coins was used instead of trading
and bartering
-the money economy began which causedin a major
development (700-300 BC)

The Persian Empire:-
-22 provinces
-an appointed governer as well as the officials
(local)
-keep their own cutoms and traditions
-improved and extended Assyrians roads to link
themselves to distant cities
-first efficient postal system was used by them
-taxes had to be paid
-had to provide soldiers for the Persian army
which is known as the system of the spies
-efficient government
-Zoroaster
-a new religion called Zoroastrianism,
it included one good god, and one evil god
-religion still practiced in a few scattered
places (550-330 BC)
